
The History of Ivano-Frankivsk
The city of Ivano-Frankivsk is located in the foothills of the Carpathians, between the rivers Nadvirnyanskaya and Solotvynska Bystrits, not far from ancient Galich. The city was founded in the seventeenth century as a fortress to protect against the Crimean Tatars in the Galician land under the name Stanislav. The beginning of Ivano-Frankivsk gives the Market Square with the town hall, which have survived to our time, although they have undergone some changes, the further restructuring of the city was carried out under the influence of the ideas of the Renaissance, which was reflected in the layout of the streets and churches of Ivano-Frankivsk.
